Where we started
The Museo di San Marco and the Cenacoli approached us for assistance in developing accessibility tools for people with disabilities. The goal was to enhance the accessibility and usability of cultural and artistic content for audiences with various needs.
What we did
Specifically, we carried out the following activities:
- we provided accessibility training for the internal team at Space SpA in order to raise awareness and transfer skills on the various ways that accessibility can be enhanced;
- BAM! developed a mobile app that is designed to make multimedia content easily accessible during visits, both on-site and remotely. The app can be downloaded via a QR code located at the entrance to each museum;
- BAM! also organised an exploratory walk around the museum and the cenacles, in which Fedora participated along with a group of people with sensory disabilities, with the support of the Italian National Agency for the protection and assistance of the Deaf (ENS) and the Italian Union of Blind and Partially Sighted People (UICI);
- in collaboration with BAM! Strategie Culturali of Bologna, we coordinated activities in order to define the strategy to be used;
- we provided strategic support to the Museo di San Marco and the Cenacoli, helping them to plan their activities;
- we were responsible for coordinating the content production phases and managing the professionals involved (Italian Sign Language and International Sign interpreters);
- we produced videos in Italian Sign Language, with Italian subtitles and voiceover;
- we produced videos in International Sign (IS), with English subtitles and voiceover.
Result: both sites are now accessible to a wider audience
Thanks to strategic support and the materials produced, the two sites are now accessible to a wider audience. This collaboration was further strengthened by our effective coordination with BAM! and the teams at both sites.
